5 Days Best of Uganda Primate Tour

The 5 Days Best of Uganda Primate Tour is designed for travelers who want to experience the country’s rich biodiversity, focusing on its most iconic primates—mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. This safari takes you to Kibale National Park, famous for chimpanzee tracking, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Along the way, you will enjoy breathtaking landscapes, cultural interactions, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kibale National Park

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or from your hotel in Kampala, you will be met by your driver-guide and begin the journey to Kibale National Park. The drive takes about 5–6 hours, offering scenic views of tea plantations, rolling hills, and small towns.

You will have a lunch stop in Fort Portal, then proceed to your lodge near Kibale Forest. The evening is at leisure, relaxing at your lodge.

Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Mid-range or luxury lodge near Kibale

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland Walk

After an early breakfast, head to Kibale Forest for a briefing before your chimpanzee tracking experience. The walk through the lush rainforest lasts about 2–4 hours, and you will spend one hour observing chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Kibale is home to 13 primate species, so expect to see red colobus, black-and-white colobus, and L’Hoest’s monkeys.

Return to the lodge for lunch and later visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk where you can spot monkeys, birds, and unique vegetation.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Same lodge as Day 1

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, passing through the beautiful Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for tree-climbing lions (optional game drive).

Arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the evening, check in, and relax as you prepare for gorilla trekking the next day.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Lodge near Bwindi

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

This is the highlight of your safari! After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. You will be assigned a gorilla family and start your trek, which may take 2–6 hours depending on their location.

Spend an unforgettable one hour with the gorillas, observing and photographing them as they feed and interact. After trekking, return to the lodge for relaxation.

Optional: Evening community visit to meet the Batwa (Pygmy) people and learn about their culture.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
