This 14-day mid-range safari offers a thrilling combination of primate encounters, classic game drives, scenic boat safaris, and immersive cultural experiences across Uganda and Rwanda. Highlights include gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, golden monkey trekking, and visits to iconic national parks and vibrant cities.
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Transfer to Kampala
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet your safari guide and transfer to your hotel in Kampala. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short city tour or visit local markets. Overnight stay in Kampala.
Day 2: Kampala – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls National Park
Begin your journey north with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided rhino tracking experience. Continue to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest park. Settle into your lodge and head out for an evening game drive.
Day 3: Murchison Falls – Game Drive & Nile Boat Safari
Enjoy a sunrise game drive through the northern savannah, where you may encounter elephants, giraffes, lions, and leopards. In the afternoon, embark on a boat safari along the Nile River to the base of Murchison Falls, followed by a hike to the top for panoramic views.
Day 4: Scenic Drive to Kibale Forest National Park
Travel southwards through the Albertine Rift Valley and Fort Portal’s lush tea plantations en route to Kibale Forest National Park, a haven for primates. Arrive and relax at your lodge nestled near the forest.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking & Bigodi Wetland Walk
Venture into Kibale Forest for an unforgettable morning of chimpanzee tracking. Later, explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, known for its rich birdlife, monkeys, and community-based tourism experiences.
Day 6: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, renowned for its diverse ecosystems. In the afternoon, take a relaxing boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where you’ll see hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species up close.
Day 7: Game Drive & Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions
Start the day with a game drive in the Kasenyi plains, a prime area for lion sightings. Later, drive south to the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions, before continuing to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for overnight.
Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
The highlight of your journey begins today with gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Spend a magical hour with a gorilla family in their natural habitat. Optional: visit a Batwa community in the afternoon to learn about indigenous forest traditions.
Day 9: Bwindi – Relaxation at Lake Bunyonyi
Drive to the picturesque Lake Bunyonyi, often called the “Switzerland of Africa.” Enjoy canoe rides, swim in the bilharzia-free waters, or take in the scenic lake views. Cultural visits to local communities are also available.
Day 10: Cross the Border – Kigali City Tour (Rwanda)
Cross into Rwanda and head to Kigali, one of Africa’s cleanest and most organized cities. Take a guided city tour including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, craft markets, and cultural centers. Overnight in Kigali.
Day 11: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, drive north to Volcanoes National Park, home to golden monkeys and mountain gorillas. Enjoy scenic views of the Virunga Mountains and take part in optional cultural activities, such as visiting an Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village.
Day 12: Golden Monkey Trekking
Embark on a morning golden monkey trek in Volcanoes National Park. These playful, endangered primates are a delight to watch. Afternoon options include exploring Musanze caves or visiting local artisan cooperatives.
Day 13: Optional Excursion – Akagera NP or Kigali Leisure Day
Choose between a full-day excursion to Akagera National Park for a game drive and boat safari, or spend a leisurely day in Kigali exploring markets, museums, or enjoying the local café scene.
Day 14: Kigali – Departure
Depending on your flight time, enjoy some last-minute shopping or sightseeing before your transfer to Kigali International Airport for your onward journey.
